I've been trying to expand my reading horizons so definitely going to check out some of those books! Also as a certified cheese lover that cheese plate looks absolutely amazing - I'm assuming that's goat cheese but can I ask what crackers you used? I might need to make a trip to Trader Joe's this week...
The crackers are Trader Joe's Fig and Olive Crisps, and they are DIVINE with some simple goat cheese. (Good eye!) The other cheese is just a mild cheddar with Triscuits - I went simple to balance out the fig situation. Also a tiny bowl of dolmas and dark chocolate covered pretzels. I love a snack plate!!!
You got a copy of Scammer! Please tell me more! Is it a good read?
Also ER is so good! I researched it a couple of years ago and enjoyed it so much. It sages a bit in the middle but I really recommend the final series; when you get there - there's no rush!
Haha, I did splurge on a copy of Scammer, even though it was SIXTY FIVE AMERICAN DOLLARS. I figured I'd gotten a lot of entertainment from CC over the years, it was the least I could do. It took forever to arrive and I viewed my payment as a donation, so when it came I was shocked. Honestly, it was a very good book - better than I expected! Riddled with typos, a little chaotic, so much navel gazing, but our girl can write a gorgeous sentence when she wants to. I feel like she wrote the book she wanted to write, and I respect her for that!
Also good to know about ER! It really is the perfect midweek show - interesting, entertaining, but doesn't require too much energy. I'm looking forward to the final installment one day!
Good for you for serving as a juror on a long, intense trial! I read three of your top five: Tomorrow..., Romantic Comedy, and Now Is Not the Time to Panic. I gave Tomorrow four instead of five stars on Goodreads however because ultimately I felt frustrated and dissatisfied with Sadie’s character development. It’s a testament to Zevin’s superlative writing, however, that her book got someone like me who’s never been into video games to feel immersed in it visually and intrigued by the medium through her storytelling. I hope you might check out my 2023 book list & recs in the second half of this post: https://sarahrunning.substack.com/p/how-to-plan-races-and-adventures
Totally agree with you on being uninterested in video games, and yet intrigued by them thanks to this book. I'm still not going to play a video game, but now I'm willing to respect it as an art form.
Also thanks for sharing your book list! We have a lot of overlap - I'll have to look into some of your nonfiction recs! Up to Speed looks really good.
I've been meaning to read TTT since it came out. It's about time I got to it. And that opening line had me 😲
I felt like I had to mention it since it took over my life for 10 days. More to come! 😅

I loved Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow!
