Thanks for reading, Celesté! The reason I haven't turned on paid subscriptions is because this newsletter is very much a hobby. I have a full time job already, and I'm trying to avoid monetizing my free time as well! I'm also playing the long game - instead of asking you for money right now, I'm waiting until I publish a book and can beg you to pre-order it. :)
Thanks so much for responding to my message. I’m considering starting a Substack this year and looking around for inspiration. Even “reasons” to keep stalling, it seems... All I can say is imposter-syndrome is real. Although starting as a side-hobby sounds a lot less intimidating. Your word-of-the-year is also growing on me now. In Ritual I trust. May you have a magical 2023 and all the best on your book writing journey. I’m an avid reader, so I’ll (hopefully) be here when that time comes. 📖
I only publish every other week and I don't offer a paid option, but I feel like I've found a lot of success with the newsletter format anyway - it just depends on how you define "success." I've made some friends, shared a lot of writing, gotten nice feedback (like your kind message!) and think of this newsletter as one of my favorite rituals. All of which is to say: if you want to start a newsletter, you should!
This was a great newsletter today. I can tell from the organization and ease of flow that this took quite a bit of time. Thanks and best wishes for 2023.
Absolutely perfect newsletter to read on New Year's Day! I love the idea of rituals and I love the idea of prioritising pleasure. Thank you for sharing 😊
Thank you for this wonderfully written piece. I’m curious Chrissy, why would you steer away from Substack’s paid subscription option?

Adore the word "ritual." Such a powerful one. My word of the year is love; I want to nourish what I love and be loving to every little thing.
What could be bigger or more powerful than love? An excellent choice - can't wait to see how you use it, and how it uses you!
Ritual is such a good one. I love that.
Thanks, Kelton! I loved your words, too. 2023, let's go!!!

Thanks, Broc! I appreciate the kind words. This one did take a while to write - the first draft was twice as long. :)
Thanks, Chrissy. My 2023 word is Discipline, the personal type not the punitive. Now I have an idea for next week.
Discipline! I love it. A great word to guide your year!

Thanks so much for reading, Grainne! It was a nice one to publish on New Year's Day.
Really liked Fleishman is in trouble too. Also really love your 2023 word. All the best in the next year, Chrissy! :-)
Thanks, Carleen! Always lovely to see your name pop up. Happy 2023 to you!
